Hiking trail castle Hohenstein
Oberhaslach
9 km tour towards the ruins of the Castle of Hohenstein (13th C). The castle was destroyed in 1337 by Rodolphe de Hohenstein.
Starting from the camp site, follow the yellow cross until you reach Hohenstein castle (alt. 450 m, ruins and panoramic view). You can still make out the stump of the keep that protected the adjacent dwelling. The bailey lies between the ditch separating the castle from the Grand Ringelsberg mountain and the keep. The construction of this castle is typical of the thirteenth century. The legend of the White Lady of Hohenstein: there are many walkers who, as evening falls, have seen a lady, dressed in white, haunt the ruins of Hohenstein. She sits at the very top of the rock, so close to the precipice that she looks like she is about to throw herself off. She reaches out to passers-by imploringly, emitting little moans and cries of despair. Continue, following the blue rectangle, to reach the two Ringelsbergs: the Grand (645 m) and Petit (642 m). There are numerous stone and wall remnants, more or less preserved, as well as Gallo-Roman remains. At the top of the Grand Ringelsberg lie the Ringelstein ruins. Follow the yellow cross to return to Oberhaslach and visit the St Florent chapel.<br />
