Hiking trail Symposium Sculpture - Sandweg

A Tour in the forest to discover some art work made by 8 artists during the 2003 Art Symposium.

From the D218 by car, don’t miss the exit on the right in the direction of the Sandweg trail and take the gravel road to reach the parking. The trail starts on your right when you arrive from the Nideck road (D218). Follow the yellow ring (direction south-east) <br><br /> After 600m, in a sharp turn on the left, look on the right hand side to see the first sculpture « Elephant Comb » from Ivan Bon. <br><br /> Stay on the same path to see the sculpture n°2,3,4 and 5 which are respectively "549" from François Weil, "Le dialogue des géants" from Tomasz Domanski, "Le royaume du laboureur" from Bénédicte Weber and Sylvain Chartier and "Existe-t-il ou n'existe-t-il pas ?" from Christian Fuchs.<br><br /> Leave the Sandweg forest road by taking the path on the left. At the next divergency, turn right to go to the ruins of the Hohenstein Castel and admire the valley from the panoramic view. <br><br /> Go back and stay on the right at the divergency to continue the walk until the next sculpture. <br><br /> Pay attention around you in order to see the sculpture n°6 and 7, respectively "Le portique des géants" from Alfi Vivern and "Sans titre" from Kim de Ruysscher. <br><br /> A bit further, turn right following the mark of the yellow ring. After approximately 400m, you will se the last sculpture : "Le château égyptien de la poupée de la fille du géant" from Gerardo Arribas.<br> <br /> The path brings you directly to the parking.<br />

This is a is a walking trail created by the "Les Géants du Nideck" (Nideck Giants) Association for a sculpture symposium (2003). More than 80 projects on the local Nideck legend were received from the whole world over. A jury met to select the eight artists who produced monumental pink sandstone sculptures in the space of three weeks: <br /> Ivan Bon, Serbia, "Elephant Comb" <br /> Kim De Ruysscher, Belgium, "Untitled" <br /> Gerardo Arribas, Spain, "The Egyptian castle of the giant’s daughter’s doll" <br /> François Weil, France, "549" <br /> Alfi Vivern, Brazil, "The Gate of the Giants" <br /> Tomasz Domanski, Poland, "The Giants’ Dialogue" <br /> Bénédicte Weber & Sylvain Chartier, France, "The Labourer’s Kingdom" <br /> Christian Fuchs, France, "Does he exist or don’t they exist?" <br /> The stones from Rothbach quarry were cut using a very high pressure water jet. The works remained on the Talmatt meadow at the edge of the village until June 2004. Then, they were moved into the forest on a hiking trail called Sandweg in front of this meadow: the "Giants’ Trail". <br />
