A walking tour through the walled quarter of Châtenois

Chatenois

The Châtenois ramparts district is situated in the south-west of the town, at the foot of the hills of the Lower Vosges. It is enclosed by a double wall, each flanked by a moat.

The discovery trail, which was updated in 2025, offers an on-site interpretation of the visible remains within the archaeological garden and along the ramparts. The results of the archaeological excavations are also incorporated, in line with the latest research.

The site attracts many visitors, particularly in spring during the Fête des Remparts, as well as tourists for whom the texts have been translated into English and German.

Some of the objects discovered during the excavations are on display at the Maison du Tourisme et du Patrimoine.
